Welcome back to Karen and Brad’s ongoing tale of Brad’s miraculous recovery from near-death. The tale also includes, in parts one and two, Karen’s joyful determination, as a Hygeia conjunct Sun in in Scorpio in the 3rd house mother, to restore her treasured son to health.   Her journey to make her beloved son Brad’s life affirming journey possible included her belief in miracles (Neptune conjunct Hygeia conjunct Sun, all in Scorpio conjunction Venus in Sagittarius) which she communicated endlessly to Brad’s hospital care givers, nurses, doctors, surgeons and probably the cleaners and administrators in Brad’s hospital ward. It has, so far been a three-year, three-month victory against giving up; a victory against leaving Brad in a vegetative state; a victory for her goal of having her son  pressing forward medically, so he is walking, talking, eating, happy and living a productive life as a restored and shining Hygeia in Gemini conjunction Erynia, sextile Sun in Leo, trine Jupiter in Aquarius man and much-loved son.

In the short article on “Hygeia, Goddess of Sanitation and Hygeia, the author of Greek Medicine.net maintains that Hygeia is the personification of the value of diet and hygiene in health maintenance and disease prevention and she is the complement to her father/partner Asclepius. The author continues that, “We look to Asclepius for medical miracles in times of crisis…, but we must do all we can to maintain our health and prevent disease ourselves. The body has amazing powers of self-healing if we keep it clean and live in accordance with Nature’s laws.” This is the stage Brad is at self-healing the moment as he is finally able to eat rather than being fed through a tube.

In his book, Spontaneous Healing, Dr. Andrew Weil, (who is a well-known author in the field of Natural Health) classifies diverse methods and attitudes to medicine and health as being either chiefly Ascelepian or Hygeian. He sees most natural, holistic, alternative medical systems are in the Hygeian camp, whereas modern medicine is overwhelmingly Ascelepian. The Hygeian approach, he maintains, is ultimately the most positive and empowering.

Like fellow academic Georgia Petridou, in her article “Asclepius the Divine Healer, Asclepius the Divine Physician: Epiphanies as Diagnostic and Therapeutic Tools”, I have found that Ascelepius and Hygeia are hallmarks of a divine revelation and Brad’s miraculous cure point to Karen and Brad’s strong Hygeia in their horoscopes, with Karen praying to the archangels and meditating with them daily. Brad has the asteroid Ascelepius in Virgo in his sixth house and exactly on his Descendant, giving the indication of a miracle cure as a measure of health.

“Virgin Hygeia… mild and kind… [who loves and works with her family, always holds] a serpent, which she is feeding from a cup….,. the goddess of physical health, is [also] the giver or protectress of mental health…”. (Aeschylus. Eumenides, p. 522, 5th century BC)

Truly blooming health (Hygeia)….” Aeschylus, Agamemnon, p. 1001.ff

To Hygeia (Health), prolific queen. Hear me, life-bearing Hygeia, of beauteous mien, mother of all; [smiter] of diseases dire, bringer of bliss.” Orphic Hymn 68 to Hygeia (Greek hymns C3rd B.C. to 2nd A.D.)

Bright-eyed mother, highest queen of Apollon’s (the Sun’s) golden throne, desirable [for health], gently-laughing Hygeia (Health).” Licymnius, Fragment 769, from Sextus Empiricus, Against the Ethicists, Greek Lyric V, C4th B.C.

THE ERINYES BECOMING THE EUMENIDES (but the asteroid is called Erynia.)

Once Athena decreed that the Erinyes would become the Eumenides the former vengeful Dementer-type women who sent wrong doers mad with not a hint of mercy, became benevolent, good-natured, warm, affectionate, tender, loving, compassionate, considerate, thoughtful and beneficent, seeking libations, protective and helpful. Maybe you have Erynia in your horoscope, aspecting your Hygeia.  Brad does and this is the past life I saw for him today.

First of all, I sought the time. It was about 12,000 years ago and Erynia today was at 27 Cancer in his fifth house of joy squaring his Mars conjunct Chiron at 27 Libra in his 8th house of past lives and family genetic inheritance. This clearly indicates a turning point.

Secondly, I began looking for Brad’s Erynia past life as his surrogate I picked a Doreen Virtue angel card which said, “SIGNS!” and the reading said, “Look for signs and symbols because the angels are trying to get your attention.” The Mars-Chiron in the 8th house of bridging between dimensions can be old wounded past life or past life energy transformed into new healing energy OR old past life healing ability is about to be given to you, but you must begin to help others and this is soul quest.

But the research for my Hygeia  and the Asteroid books indicated overwhelmingly that the many “Hygeia -Aspecting Erynia” people  had experienced Near Death Experiences .

THE ERYNIA PAST LIFE in Brad’s eyes as I am only the surrogate for his spirit: “I see a grove of lilac trees.  I see the most beautiful ethereal maidens floating through but suddenly they are attacked by wild men who seek to take the maidens home as wives.  They are great hulking brutes. I am one of them.

A giant being appears, a thunder and lightning spirit full of sparks, smoke and fire and horrible noise and he wants to fry us.  The maidens run, all bar one who stands her ground and shouts, “Have mercy on them!”

The thunder being turns them into defenseless rabbits, but the girl is angry and hardly meek and mild and she shouts again, “Stop! That one and she points to me. Save him. We will keep him.”

Then the maidens take me to a misty place (sort of teleporting. I was too dazed to know what was happening), clearly a place of immortals. I could glean that much, for they weren’t substantial like humans, but I dared not poke them.  In those times when Atlantis still existed everything was God. We were all divine and scared. All was one, all joined, no separation.

It is a dimension of plenty, abundance, a shining, golden place full of pure love, kindliness and mercy.    I stay there forever, but occasionally I long to be human again and the longing grows and multiplies and the maiden who helped to me and strokes my brow. “Bar-el”, she says, “We will fulfill your wishes, but there are conditions. She told me and I agreed.

I am returned to the lilac grove, which looks the same, but I have the knowledge I accrued in the otherworld.  I spend the rest of my life helping others, especially the violent, brutal ones, because I am still giant, bearded and I look superficially brutal, but if you look more deeply my heart shines and I am alive for all sentient beings.

Occasionally, I go to the lilac grove, and the maiden I met eons ago, from here, appears and teaches me new knowledge.

Around 2,500 years ago the famous Greek writer Aeschylus who wrote the play, Agamemnon.  Agamemnon, was the lover of Cassandra and leader of the Greek armies at the Trojan war.

Although Aeschylus wrote 90 plays one of the only ones to survive is The Oresteia Trilogy (Agamemnon, Libation Bearers and The Eumenides.) It is vital to this article that I mention that Aeschylus is said to have described his work as ‘morsels from the feast of Homer,’ as Brad is also known as Homer.

The three women, who in ancient Greece were known as the Fates, also known as the Furies, the Greek Erinyes and later the serpent goddess Athena when they were transformed into the “kindly ones” who give beneficence, were then called the Eumenides, in Greco-Roman mythology. Thus, Erynia is the underworld collective chthonic goddess of vengeance transformed into a second chance at life.

In all the horoscopes I have collected, for my book, Hygeia and the Asteroids, people who have the asteroid Erynia aspecting Hygeia, most have Near Death Experiences   where beneficent angelic beings cleanse and purify them of their previous karmic problems and them back to life in a miraculous manner.

According to the Greek poet Hesiod, they were the daughters of Gaea (Earth.)  They were known as Alekto (Unceasing Anger), Tisiphone (Avenger) and Megaera (Jealous). These three (Fates or Dementers as they would be known in the Harry Potter series) lived in the underworld (the unconscious) and ascended to earth (consciousness) to pursue the wicked.

They were often identified with spirits of the fertility and abundance of the earth.

Clearly, Hygeia and Erynia conjunct in Gemini in the fourth house produce good health from one’s family. They create well-being from being benevolent and compassionate to family and maybe well being as a builder, interior decorator, buying real estate and they have good health from being with mother and family and soul ties with family.  In Gemini usually one may have to watch one communication, but also lungs, throat, speech, larynx and do not smoke.

I can tell you because I did Brad’s Hygeia past life. This life is a few hundred years after the Erynia lifetime. This is Brad speaking:

I see whales, giant whales. I am a sailor, not alone, but with men and one woman for luck. We are seeking a mythical fish who is a friend to man-kind. His name is Freed-eee. It could be Fred -eee.

He is my friend from my dreams. Every night he comes to me in my nightly big dreams (for I am an oracle (Hygeia in Gemini quincunx Kassandra in Scorpio in 9th house.) He tells me what I should know. He is a knowledge giver, a wise one, an Atlantean light man, who comes in the guise of a fish, but he is my spiritual guide. The guide of my soul for this life.

The men think this giant mythical fish is real. I have lucid dreams and I tell my fish Fred-ee about the men.

Barr-el, he calls me.  I will appear to your men as a giant rainbow fish. That will make them happy. I am overjoyed and everyone sees him. He is as giant as the whales. He tells them things about their soul quest and they are happy beyond belief. I love Fred-ee. He is so full of love.

Brad has a fan/funnel chart with Saturn in Aries in his 2nd house. This indicates that he Saturn in Aries which indicates that he:

  • Has a great deal of inherent common sense, which he will learn gradually?
  • Maybe frustrated with the delays and frustrations of the energy and drive of normal Aries,
  • Has a strong need for security,
  • seeks immediate gratification and quick fixes, thus these painful years in hospital have taught patience,
  • is a trail-blazer, is dependable and organized, may act childishly at times, which by now is a thing of the past. By watching his mother, the doctors, surgeons, dieticians, the physiotherapists, social workers and the compassionate caregivers, in short, the team of people devoted to saving and improving his life the immaturity would have disappeared,
  • a man battles for what his beliefs,
  • a man who considers things deeply

He also has Saturn in his 2nd house which means that,

  • He is thrifty and a hard worker,
  • Success comes slowly to him so he practices gratefulness meditation,
  • Because of a poor background he has, in his early life build a house and gathered security

He has a Pisces ascendant which matches Karen’s Sun in Neptune. Thus, with his Mercury in Virgo opposite he matches his pragmatic, organized, utilitarian ways of thinking to his spiritual beliefs (Pisces beliefs.)

His Jupiter is trine Hygeia in Aquarius in his 12th house, so he is a friend to mankind and can influence the collective.

His Neptune is in Capricorn 28 degrees in his 11th house of hopes and dreams squaring Chiron conjunct Mars. He is a fisherman.

Brad had no clear aspect configuration,

Hygeia 16, Hades 17, Noemi 15 and Erynia 15 degrees 24 minutes in GEMINI IN HIS 4TH HOUSE

HADES can mean deterioration, but it is in the charts of many healers and activists and amazons when its conjuncts or aspects Hygeia.

NOEMI : Hank Friedman  states that there are a few possibilities with asteroid Noemi: The name Noemi is derived from the Hebrew Naamah, meaning “pleasant, delightful”. Consequently, Noemi  may give a gracious, amiable and congenial nature. Maybe a position of social prestige may be attained.   With Hygeia you would gain well being from being a friend to others and soul wise you have come in as a sociable, likeable person.

Mercury 13, Anubis 15, Black Moon 16, North Node 20 and Venus 20 degrees of VIRGO in his 7th house.

MERCURY. We all know that Mercury is communication, the throat chakra and short term travel. Mercury is a psychopomp and can travel between the world of Earth, heavenly realms and the underworld like Hecate.  He is Hermes the alchemical god and the alchemist.

ANUBIS The asteroid Anubis , the jackal headed was the son of the Nepthys and Osiris a god of death and the underworld.  He was the god of death, mummification, embalming, the afterlife, cemeteries, tombs, and the Underworld. Besides having a similarity to Hades he is clearly a god of the Bardo or afterlife (life between lives.)

THE BLACK MOON . The Black Moon looks at your (Jungian) shadow and forces you spiritually to become your soul core or essence regardless of your qualifications, career, wealth or social standing.

NORTH NODE is our soul’s intended pathway in this lifetime  and one can use the gifts from the south node past lives, but not fall back into the negative behaviours of the south node. In his past lives Brad lived Piscean lives and usually indicates  means escaping reality in some way or being a

VENUS is clearly love, our attractions and values.

What I can see here are possible indications of near death (Anubis and the Black Moon),  and actually going to the underworld, but being saved from death by love (Venus) and his mother’s  practical detailed work of endless positive communication (Mercury) with hospital staff and communication and brain neurological functioning and diet, all  to keep Brad’s recovery evolving.   The north Node in Virgo seems to be the nuts and bolts functioning of healing and hospital procedures and Brad’s mother becoming an expert here to save him.

ERYNIA AND HYGEIA  definitely save the day and the beings from Brad’s past lives in his Erynian and Hygeian lives may well have intervened.  The maiden from Brad’s Erynian life may well be his soul partner  because NOEMI is also an indication of marriage, partnership and with Hygeia conjunct Noemi this may be a soul union forever. I must go back to find her name.

The crux of the whole chart is Mercury, because it rules Virgo and Gemini and Brad must keep communicating on an earthly and heavenly level.

I hope that you enjoyed this article.

Karen   and Brad I send my love and I give to all who read this my blessings and a hug,

I am nearly finished the first draft of my Hygeia book by Hilary Bond PhD

Hi to all my followers and hello to everyone who reads my Hygeia posts,

I am at the stage where I am adding the last touches to all my chapters. I have written roughly 400 pages.

Who is Hygeia as a mythological and historical archetype? She is an old totemic goddess of goodness, abundance, fertility, springs, rivers and healthy countryside in regards to geographical-ecological and personal environment, who is part of European Neolithic culture and who is reconstituted in ancient Greek Classical times about 2,400 years ago, because of threats to Greece and her colonies. Astrologically, she pinpoints your weaknesses in regard to your physical, psychological, mental, emotional and etheric health. If you are of a high vibration she points to your soul path, so she may focus on the health problems you are a specialist in if you are a doctor, a social worker, a psychologist, teacher, herbalist, naturopath, healer, chiropractor, astrologer etc.

I have a long introduction and a long “Hygeia Discovery Chart chapter” which gave me a lot of extra ideas on what Hygeia actually does. I just added three Sabian Symbols to this chapter and consulted Lynda Hill, the doyen of Sabian Symbols about using them. She was really excited. Its great to work with another experienced and positive astrologer.

I have short mythology and history chapter and this includes Hygeia’s mythological and astrological friends; her medical background and the ancient healing techniques that were part of the Ascelepian-Hygeian temple-hospitals.

I have a long chapter on the elements and long chapters on the effect of Hygeia through all the signs and all the houses, but my longest chapter is on Hygeia’s relationship (through the geometric aspects) with the Ascendant, Midheaven, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Chiron, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. But I also include two other astrological groups: first the Trans-Neptunians as they have physical medical affects and psychological affects and secondly on the largest asteroids. Therefore I analyse the affect and effect of these Trans-Neptunian planets with Hygeia: Vulcanus, Zeus, Kronos, Admetos, Hades, Cupido, Apollon, and Poseidon. The aspects I use are the conjunction, sextile, trine, square, opposition and quincunx. I also analyse horoscopes where people have aspects between Transpluto (obsession and perfection) and Hygeia and Eris (discord) and Hygeia, as well as Hygeia’s aspects to Athena (wisdom), Juno (relationships), Vesta (focus), Ceres (mothering), Cassandra (intuition), Mnemosyne (memory), Medea (pagan practices), Ariadne (abandonment of self for love), Hecate (grief and loss) and Astraea (justice, law and order, purity and resilience.)

I do have a couple of other chapters, but I’ll leave them as a surprise.

If you feel you have something to contribute to this book or you would like a small cameo in it please message me via my Starcounsll website.

I wish you many blessings and warm wishes,

The picture above is of the asteroid goddess ASTRAEA

Hi to all the people who follow me,

Thankyou so much for reading my articles. I really appreciate it.

I am working on my Hygeia book at the moment; on the Hygeia-Medea aspect section. In each section, say it is geometric aspects between Hygeia and the asteroid goddess Medea I investigate people who have Hygeia conjunction Medea and those who have sextiles, trines, oppositions, squares and quincunxes. I have analysed all aspects between Hygeia and the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, the Nodes, Ascendant, Midheaven, Ceres, Athena, Juno, Vesta, Astraea, Medea, Ariadne, Europa, Mnenosyne, Pandora, Hecate, Cassandra, Admetos, Cupido, Apollon, Hades, Poseidon, Kronos, Zeus, Vulcanus and TransPluto. I also do Hygeia through the signs, houses and elements. I analyse the charts of well over one thousand people. It took me a day to find one person who had a sextile between Hygeia and Medea and that happened to be Sigmund Freud. I finished my Hygeia-Admetos section on Friday. What a relief. The big problem I have always find with research is that I find some inspiring piece of information to add and I did that last night spending far to much time adding wonderful medical pieces of information about Moon aspect Hygeia people.

ARTICLE ONE. One is on Astraea, the fifth largest asteroid in our solar system. Her symbol looks like a percentage sign and until the other day when I read that one astrologer considered her and Athena as the major rulers of Libra I had disregarded her. But now I am including her in my Hygeia book. Wow, I had fervently disregarded her even though she just happens to be on my Solar Fire Astrology program. And amazingly she just happens to sextile my Moon conjunct Hygeia. It was an “aha moment” to discover something that sat right under my nose for years. Astraea is known as the “Star Maiden” and she is the goddess of precision, purity, innocence, justice, ethics and harmony. She is very much aligned with Poseidon.

ARTICLE TWO. The other article is on yod interpretation. I have three people, two with yods and one with two quincunxes who want me to discuss their astrological dilemmas. Wow. Why? Because I receive many messages asking me to look at people’s yods. Yods are not hard to understand if we realise we have a number of subpersonalities that are not aligned. If we see ourselves as a house then our rooms (bedroom, lounge with fireplace, kitchen with dining room , office/workplace, bathroom, toilet, foyer, laundry and the garden) should be joined by doors. Let’s imagine the lounge and fire place as the Sun, (our spirit); our kitchen as the Moon (where we cook, are domestic and eat), Mercury as the office workplace, the toilet and laundry as Pluto, the computer as Uranus, our bedroom as Venus, our bathroom as dreamy inspiring Neptune, Saturn as the garden, garage and garden sheds where we ground and keep our car (Mars) and do mechanical work. The foyer and from door are our Ascendant. Oh dear I did not include Jupiter.

Let us say we have a quincunx from our Moon to Pluto. Are the issues of excretion and letting go of the past and our diet and body connected or do we have stomach heat and have constipation? Is there a door from the dining room/kitchen to the toilet? Do we go outside daily with our yoga mat and exercise on the lawn in the sunshine? Perhaps we have a quincunx from Mercury to Saturn. We sit in our office all day and don’t get up to exercise. Do we have a door from the office to the garden? So in both cases we have to get the chainsaw out and make a door. That is a dramatic and severe adjustment, but adjustments must be performed in some form to be healthy. All quincunxes and yods involve health and finance or both.

One accurate description of a yod or quincunx is being “between a rock and hard place.” That depicts children who are beaten or neglected or have parents who never listen to them, compare them unfairly to others or expect them to perform beyond their capabilities. How can they adjust? Well one of those children who were tortured by her parents escaped from being between a rock and a hard place. That case was in the media last year. The Turpin case is a child abuse and captivity incident discovered in Perris, California, United States, in which David and Louise Turpin imprisoned their thirteen children. We can see that one child was assertive and had willpower. Dr Victor Frankl’s discovery of people who stayed alive in the holocaust camps of Nazi Germany in WWII were positive and they could see themselves living. They adjusted and they lived. We must take action if we have a quincunx and we must change our old habits to new and healthy habits, beliefs and behaviours.

In my doctorate (PhD thesis) and Master’s Degree I swore to confidentiality and ethical behaviour with all people. I receive occasional pleas to “look at my friend/my teacher/my neighbour/my ex-husband etc”. I will not do this ever. To do a horoscope I must have the verbal or written permission of the person seeking astrological analysis. It is not ethical to “look at someone” without their permission. It is voyeurism. If they are a public figure and their birth data is on Wikipedia or on the net yes, but otherwise it is not acceptable. I taught a subject on “Ethics” where I taught in the Human Welfare School at university and I taught a subject on “Aboriginal Art Ethics and Protocols” at Griffith University. I delete all such requests that are unethical.

Please do not write to me via my email . This is a massive boundary issue and an invasion of my privacy. If you wish to write to me please write to me via messages on my StarCounsell website. I will always message you back.

I write articles to help people on my StarCounsell website, but I do not analyse charts. I have been a kindergarten teacher, school teacher, college teacher and university teacher and my articles and books are “how to ” articles so you can analyse your own chart. If you use keys words like the ones I used in my June 2019 article I am sure you can learn.

Many bright blessings to you,

HYGEIA IN YODS, QUINCUNXES AND INCONJUNCTS: PART ONE by Hilary Bond PhD . (Copyright to Dr Hilary Bond.)

Articles on the yod constellation and the quincunx aspect and the astrological goddess Hygeia are the two areas of astrology that most people read on my website so today I am writing about people who have yods or quincunxes that contain Hygeia.
I see Chiron as firstly, the astrological symbol of holistic healing and secondly, in your horoscope, Chiron symbolises the Rainbow Bridge which links earthly reality and the transcendent realms leading to a healthy whole. Like Chiron Hygeia is, firstly, the feminine symbol of holistic health and secondly she links the divine to healing. Hygeia is the goddess of hygiene, health, sanitation, wisdom, purity, soundness of mentality and spirituality and holistic well-being. The asteroid Hygeia’s placement in an astrological chart signifies purification, as well as meanings associated with health issues, sickness, cures and the moral and physical wholeness that are implicit in ideas of good health or good order. Thus Hyegia is similar to the rune Ansuz which also means good order as a manifestation of pure “spirit” and I have found lately that if Hygiea’s placement in a horoscope is challenging (squares, difficult conjunctions, oppositions and quincunxes) this may sometimes indicate an unclean (or unsanitised) mentality or psychiatric problems. Wherever Hygeia is in the horoscope, she ideally tries to cleanse and sanitise behaviours, but in Ted Bundy’s horoscope, which I analyse in this article Hygeia’s presence points to a very unclean mind.

I’ll use Ted Bundy’s yod in the following explanation of yoddish energies. What Karen Hamaker-Zondag states in her “Yod Book” is that:
1. Clarity is lacking in a yod,
2. Because the three planets or points come from such different backgrounds of element, sign and house (1. Hygeia retrograde, fire, Aries, 9th house; 2. Venus retrograde water, Scorpio, in a 6 planet stellium, in the 4th house and 3. Uranus retrograde, air, Gemini in the 10th house) all kinds of tensions and ambiguities arise. (Ted Bundy also had a second yod in which his Venusian ruler, Pluto, took over. Apex Athena in Capricorn, earth in the 5th house quincunxed Pluto fire, in Leo in the 12th house and Uranus air, Gemini in the 10th house.)
3. Why do tensions and ambiguities arise in yods? Because one of the planets (planet 1 Hygeia) wants to intervene with planet 2 (Venus) and planet 2 loses some of its energy in this altercation.
4. Then planet 3 (Uranus) joins in with all their beliefs and basic assumptions.
5. “The result is an ambiguous ball of emotions, feelings, turbulence, feeling of incapacity and a chain reaction that creates a lack of direction”.
6. Although yoddish people may be full of extreme emotions, practical advice from an astrologer should be to retain integrity at all costs, not be radical, not be pompous or egotistical regardless of insecurity and be grounded, mindful and rational, in all circumstances, rather than escaping into another reality or losing your grip on your true path.
7. Vitally, we must look at the pattern of attachment the yoddish child received. Karen Hamaker-Zondag maintains that “only when children with a yod have received safe guidance in their childhood can a form of orientation and real direction develop.”
8. Yod people can end up in totally unforeseen circumstances, especially when yoddish people fall in love with a partner who drags them into a problematic world.
9. Yoddish people may hold a lot of ‘old business’ that belongs to their parent’s generation or a family shadow (a repression of a particular theme that has happened over several generations.)
10. Yoddish people may be endlessly searching for the right career, the right relationship, the right path, the right place, the right direction,
11. But yoddish people are unique and they travel a unique road in life.
12. And often the second half of the life of a yoddish person will be very different to the first half and this may be the result of unforeseen circumstances.
13. In yoddish people lives an unexpected event (the hand of God) can offer a turning point.

Sometimes the abstractness of a horoscope can make astrology difficult to understand, so let us look at Hygeia in common sense terms, because in this article Hygeia is part of every yod and yods are difficult to understand. Hygeia is a goddess of spas, springs, wells and oases where water comes up out of the ground. In ancient times water was vital for people and all creatures, so a spring or oasis was an important camping spot. As springs, oases or soaks attracted not only humans, animals, birdlife and reptiles also were part of a spring ecosystem. So in the indigenous, tribal world of Europe springs became first, a totemic fertility place or a place of plenty and safety in the otherwise harsh environment. As time went on springs became a place of the Great Mother and they were places of healing as sacred water, especially thermal mineralised can cleanse, sanitise and heal everything. Hygeia was a Greek goddess of healing springs. Other healing spring goddesses were Sirona, Hygeia, Isis, Hathor, Sulis, Coventina, Brigantia-Bridget, Minerva or Athena and in time Mother Mary. Sirona was a Celtic European goddess of healing springs and Sulis, Coventina and Brigantia were British goddesses of healing springs. So the goddess Hygeia became a symbol of therapeutic abilities in a horoscope and the ability to sanitise ourselves mentally and physically. To understand the astrological symbolism of Hygeia we need to remember that Hygeia’s temple of healing became a sleep temple which also included dream work, dream oracles, a gymnasium, a hospital and spas. These temples were like today’s health resorts or alternate therapy centres where you can see a transpersonal psychologist, an osteopath, a Bowen therapist, a naturopath, an acupuncturist or a kinesiologist and maybe even have a vegetarian lunch. Thus we see Hygeia as a goddess of holistic healing, where people with a strong Hygeia may be drawn to health resorts in the country side, shamanic healing, acupuncture, naturopathy, dream therapy, exercise regimes, meditation and sound therapy.

We associate the 8th house with surgery and psychology and we associate the 6th house with health. The 6th House is traditionally called the “House of Health”, because of its vast importance to your general well-being. Lyn Koiner states that the esoteric 6th house Sixth House creates healers who help others to change negative patterns in their lives in order to improve overall health and well-being. Lyn maintains that spiritually, this House rules health and human services, healing services and nutrition. A planet in the 6th House does not necessarily lead to an illness or other health issue, but it increases the risk of it – simply because the planet increases the activity of that house. The 6th House ingredients are normally ones of strength and capacity, but when work stress accumulates one’s strength and capacity for good health become exhausted and thereby cause lasting health issues. The twelfth house of spirituality heals quietly in quiet environments such as retreats. Meditation, hypnosis, dream therapy, water therapy and sound therapy would be 12th house healing. Lyn Koiner, who is a wonderful medical astrologer, says that second house is a healing house and it rules body movements that sustain the body such as yoga, aerobics and bioenergetics. She states that the second house is the most compulsive house and planets here behave compulsively. Lyn states that spiritually, the esoteric second house is for sharing what we have with others, fair trade organizations (with the 4th House) and agriculture in under-developed areas of the world. This is a medical house tending to the physical body, body movements and techniques for its maintenance. I love Lyn Koiner’s definition of the esoteric 8th house. She suggests that this is a major healing house for healing those who are totally out of control. I can see that this would include lunatic asylums and health retreats. Healing can be physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, economic and even technological (x-rays, CT scans). It has great power for transformation and rejuvenation. Neptune here rules a spiritual guide of someone we knew in our youth. With the 4th and 12th houses the 8th house rules our connection with our soul group. When there are strong afflictions between the 4th and 12th Houses, this often indicates a violent death in the past life. This can be part of the trauma. It rules psychic dreams, out of body experiences, life after life studies, near death experiences (inconjunct to ruler) and a connection with spirit guides. It can help others make transitions. What sign or house do we associate Hygeia with? I would say the second, sixth, eighth and houses.

We must remember that Hygeia is a goddess of sanit-ation and hygiene. In ancient Greece and Mycenae many people believed that mental disorders or in-sanity came from the gods. The gods made the mind unclean. And in a world where many important phenomena such as mental illness were not readily explicable, the whims of the gods were the fall-back explanation. Physicians and others fought against this idea from an early date (600 B.C.), giving physiological explanations instead. Many people sought magical-religious remedies such as going to spend the night in a temple of the healing god Asclepius and his daughter Hygeia, in the hope that he would work a cure or tell you how to get cured, while physicians sought mainly medical ones. No one thought that it was the duty of the state to care for the insane. Either their families looked after them, or they ended up on the street. Ascelepion temples allowed the poor in their temples. So a Hygeian type of health includes sanitation, as well as sanity and hygiene. Hygeia obviously included a hygienic soul, body, mind and spirit. I have included the worst (murderers) and best people who have Hygeia as part of an astrological yod in this article.

Now let us look at yods and then we will combine Hygeia with a yod. Yod Bearers are the seekers of the Zodiac. When you have a yod, you have mountains to climb. The Yod is indeed a challenging aspect, but challenges are a gift to help us learn and grow. We remember from my previous articles that yods and inconjuncts produce people who may have health problems that stem from a lack of focus on the mechanisms of one’s body. Second, you can tell where the illness may be by looking at the apex planet. The build up from emotional dross in yod or inconjunct people can develop and explode and this is a major reason for illness. So psychologically and physically and we would assume spiritually a yod or inconjunct person lacks awareness about themselves. They are quite inept at identifying internal psychological, repressed or supressed emotions or physical needs that may be perfectly clear to more aware people. So we who watch this or read about it can see that this is an aspect that produces a block in awareness, so a Uranian transit could well open it up so the person at least sees a psychological astrologer, a good counsellor or psychologist or perhaps a long suffering and empathic friend.

How do I know? Firstly, I understand yod and inconjunct energy because I have two yods and I have been through all the stages, from total lack of awareness to complete awareness of my own personality. I am the result of a great number of past life healings, ancestral healings, soul retrievals that have returned dissociated and traumatised parts of myself. Uranian transits at various times in my life, especially after all the therapy I have had have really opened my eyes to the possibilities in my life.
Secondly, I know because I have had many clients in different states of awareness. I love dealing with clients who want to evolve. I look at Ted Bundy in this article who really was at the bottom of the yoddish woodpile. As a shamanic practitioner and counsellor I would say that even as a child he was very dissociated and to have begun his career as a serial killer he was certainly insane. Sanity is definitely a major province of Hygeia the goddess of sanitation.

I have three people, who have Hygeia as part of a yod, to analyse in this article. Two have been clients. I also have some challenging person who has Hygeia in his horoscope as part of a yod. This is Ted Bundy, a serial murderer. In part two I will look at other Hygeia yods.

Inconjuncts can be semi-sextiles (30 degrees) or quincunxes (150 degrees) and yods are an astrological configuration of two quincunxes forming an isosceles triangle with a sextile as the base of the triangle. If you go back to my previous four “yod” articles you will remember that the interaction between your two planets or planet and asteroid or planet and point is in two dissimilar signs. The orb I use will only be around four degrees. Karen Hamaker-Zondag suggests in her Yod Book that she uses up to 3.5 degrees in her orbs.

So how on earth do we balance the dissonant quincunx-inconjunct planetary energy? The key attitudes and actions to balance the inharmonious energy of a quincunx are:
• Adjustment between your semi-sextiling planets
• Trade-offs between your quincunxing planets
• Compromising between your internal energies
• Modification of your attitudes
• Re-evaluating your behaviour and thoughts
• Reviewing your life and cycles
• Perceiving one’s lack of moderation
• Recognising a need to prove ones-self
• Negotiation between one’s psychological attitudes and behaviours
• Recognising excessiveness or inhibition
• Describing the energy to one’s self and others, brainstorming then trying to solve this problem through thinking outside the square
• Gestalt mediation or counselling so one turns each planet into a person who performs a psychodrama
• And the most important one. Does the person with the yod really want to evolve, move on or get better, because I have met a number of people who come to me to “fix” yods, but as soon as we begin a dialogue they go into denial and they may also heartily need to blame someone, in fact anyone, and the astrological transits that could have moved them on have been and gone.

Thus the first step to “fix” a yod or quincunx is the balancing of a desired need or wish for a practical outcome. This requires finding a balance between wish fulfilment and responsibility. It usually manifests as an attitude towards oneself and the world and in the end one must limit one’s self. So there is a feeling that you must surrender something. And this would cause resentment and frustration. So rather than feel resentful, blaming and frustrated or totally avoiding the issue or procrastinating there has to be a compromise, a change of attitude or an “aha” moment that, “I really need to look at myself quietly and seriously”. I also suggest soul retrievals for this life or past life healing. Mary’s yoddish life was radically changed when she began studying soul retrieval in South America.
Joan Kellog suggests another way of unlocking yods. Let us look at this. Joan suggests that the apex be called the “foot” and the way out she calls the activation point. Joan Kellog (page 4) states that the activation point is the midpoint between the sextile of the two quincunxes that emerge from the apex of the yod. Joan suggests that the midpoint and apex is what she calls the axis of awareness.

So as we move from horoscope to horoscope look at murderer Ted Bundy’s astrological-psychological graph we see that according to Joan Kellog’s book
1. Ted Bundy’s axis of yodal Hygeian awareness is 20 degrees Taurus in the 10th house, as the activation point, opposite his Venus retrograde in the sign of Scorpio in the 4th house.
2. Mary’s axis of awareness in her yod is 21 degrees Hygeia in the sign of Taurus in the 8th house opposite 22 degrees Scorpio on the 2nd-3rd house cusp, as the activation point. conjunct Hygeia.
3. Finbar’s axis of yodal awareness is 2.5 degrees Scorpio 1st -2nd house cusp, as activation point, opposite his Admetos 5 degrees Taurus conjunct Hygeia Taurus on the 7th-8th house cusp. Finbar’s Admetos conjunct Hygiea quincunxes Pluto.

CASE ONE: TED BUNDY–APEX VENUS retrograde quincunx URANUS retrograde quincunx HYGIEIA retrograde.

Ted died aged 42 by execution via electrocution. He had five pseudonyms and convictions for aggravated kidnapping, attempted murder, burglary, murder and killings. He had 30 plus victims whom he killed over 16 years in Washington, Utah, Florida, Colorado, Oregon, Idaho and California. He was actually a serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar and necrophile who assaulted and murdered numerous young women and girls. Bundy was regarded by many of his young female victims as handsome and charismatic, traits that he exploited to win their trust. He typically approached them in public places, feigning injury or disability, or impersonating an authority figure, before overpowering and assaulting them at more secluded locations. He sometimes revisited his secondary crime scenes for hours at a time, grooming and performing sexual acts with the decomposing corpses until putrefaction and destruction by wild animals made further interaction impossible. He decapitated at least 12 of his victims, and kept some of the severed heads in his apartment for a period of time as mementos. On a few occasions, he simply broke into dwellings at night and bludgeoned his victims as they slept. Bundy confided in Special Agent William Hagmaier of the FBI Behavioural Analysis Unit. Hagmaier was struck by the “deep, almost mystical satisfaction” that Bundy took in murder. “Hagmaier related that, “After a while, murder is not just a crime of lust or violence, it becomes possession. They are part of you … [the victim] becomes a part of you, and you [two] are forever one … and the grounds where you kill them or leave them become sacred to you, and you will always be drawn back to them.” Bundy told Hagmaier that he considered himself to be an “amateur”, an “impulsive” killer in his early years, before moving into what he termed his “prime” or “predator” phase at about the time of Lynda Healy’s murder in 1974. Biographer Ann Rule described him as “a sadistic sociopath who took pleasure from another human’s pain and the control he had over his victims, to the point of death, and even after”. Attorney Polly Nelson, a member of his last defence team, wrote, Ted “was the very definition of heartless evil.”

Firstly, we note Karen Hamaker-Zondag’s advice to astrologers regarding people with a yod or in the case of Ted Bundy, two yods. She maintains that although yoddish people may be full of extreme emotions, practical advice from an astrologer should be to retain integrity at all costs, not be radical, not be pompous or egotistical regardless of insecurity and be grounded, mindful and rational, in all circumstances, rather than escaping into another reality or losing your grip on your true path. Ted had Uranus I the 10th house inconjunct his Venus conjunct Mercury in Scorpio so he was by nature rebellious, easily irritate and unconventional so, as Ted was given up at birth by an unwed mother to his extremely religious grandparents, his Uranian traits and his grandparents extreme religion were not cohesive with a healthy attachment pattern or keeping a grip on reality. But you can make up your mind about this case as you read this article.

Note that Hygeia is in Aries in the 9th house of the divine or scared (ruled by Mars in Sagittarius conjunct the Moon) and Hygeia quincunxes Venus in Scorpio retrograde. Venus is ruled by Pluto in the 12th house of the mystical. Hygeia in Aries also trines Pluto in Leo retrograde in the 12th trine Moon in Sagittarius (which is part of a six planets, Juno and South Node stellium).

Pluto in the 12th house is part of two yod’s in Ted Bundy’s chart and importantly it is the ruler of his Venus in Scorpio. In the words that Robert Phoenix, an astute and insightful astrologer, who writes about Pluto in the 12th house, it is easy to see Ted Bundy. Robert Phoenix states, “I can … predict that something dark, painful and often tragic has occurred in the lives of these folks. It’s often a secret pain that they carry throughout the course of their lives. Pluto plants a dark seed there and it blooms into … Rimbaud’s ‘Flowers of Hell.’ In many instances, the placement of natal, 12th House Pluto leads to careers in hospitals, mortuaries, and hospices”. Here I shivered as Ted Bundy made a career of death. Robert continued, “Pluto can also represent something much more ominous, on a supernatural plane. Pluto is power. Pluto in the 12th, without surrender to the shadow which becomes illuminated, is a form of obsession, compulsion and even possession”. Isn’t that amazing.
Now we look at Ted Bundy’s Pluto in another light. Nancy B Detweiller maintains on her Pathway to Ascension astrological retrogrades website that, “Pluto retrograde in this grand trine indicates a carry-over of psychic powers from previous lifetimes and these powers are supposed to be used in constructive ways only. A karmic debt is owned to humanity stemming from the age indicated by the sign in which Pluto is located. This debt is to be paid through selfless service to humanity”. This is the time of the Babylonian and Egyptian civilizations. Nancy also suggests that Pluto retrograde people may have, “Tremendous possible spiritual growth and you have the opportunity to rise above the karma of the human race and step off the wheel of rebirth”. Rather than this high vibration Pluto in this chart as the ruler of the yod apex (Venus in Scorpio) is only attracted by an obsession about rape, kidnapping, necrophilia, murder and total degeneration. This is the bottom rung of the Pluto archetype. Here Hygeia in Aries manifests as brain damage or neurocognitive dysfunction, a core feature of schizophrenia, which is thought to contribute to the impulsive violent aggression manifested by some homicidal individuals. So the grand trine with Hygeia, Moon and Pluto manifests as manic (stellium with six planets) aggressive emotional need (Mars conjunct Moon) for self-seeking thrills (Hygeia in Aries in the 9th) via perverted (Uranus) intense, obsessive, sexual acts which include murder, kidnapping and necrophilia (Venus in Scorpio. Alan Epstein in his book on “Understanding Aspects: The Inconjunct” states that Uranus quincunx people are rebellious and may carry high levels of anxiety, rage and unpredictable behaviour. They love to shock. And he certainly did.
Venus, Mercury, Hygeia and Uranus in this yod are retrograde. When a planet is retrograde, its energies are turned inward and become more subjective. The energy is slower manifesting in the external world, partly because the individual with retrograde planets tends to think more deeply about the energies involved. According to Martin Schulman, in his Karmic Astrology: Retrogrades & Reincarnation, Vol. II, retrograde planets tend to break the time barrier. The individual brings memories of prior lifetimes into the present incarnation. There may be feelings of a “blending of lifetimes” characterized by the person attempting to resolve issues that still appear to be unfinished. The memories can be so vivid that the person does not recognize them as “memories.” The individual keeps re-living the experiences that relate to the particular retrograde planet which could create schizophrenic behaviour in someone like murderer Ted Bundy. Jeremy Neal in his article “Hygeia, Virgo and the 6th” suggests that Hygeia is a principle of cleanliness, clean-living, of washing, eating well and looking after you. Jeremy maintains that Hygeia fits neatly with the 6th house and with principles of right-living, in a near Buddhist sense; right livelihood, right intention, right speech, taking care that our habits are conducive to a good state of mind and a healthy outlook. This could not be further from the truth for Ted Bundy’s bizarre state of mind and behaviour. Jeremy also maintains that, “If we are burning the candle at both ends, drinking too much, eating junk food and not washing enough we are offending Hygeia, and her judgement will be handed down in the form of degeneration and habitual instability”. I am quite sure that Ted Bundy was far too busy carrying out his degenerate habits to know about Hygeia in his horoscope. Jeremy emphasises that, “Anyone with a stressed, angular or debilitated Hygeia probably has quite chaotic lifestyle habits.” And yes, Ted Bundy took the cake for being chaotic, evil and totally anti-Hygeia.

Ted Bundy has Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto all retrograde. Oh, and I forgot Hygeia. Retrogrades operate through multiple dimensions at the same time. Nancy B Detweiller states that “Venus retrograde indicates difficulty in expressing freely one’s love and affection for others. You may feel that you lack emotional fulfilment and tend to interpret life’s events through the lens of ‘how much am I loved or deprived of love?’” She continues, “Emotionally based relationships can be difficult because you tend to internalize and thereby exaggerate hurts. Venus retrograde people may have soul memories of past life painful relationships and a great misunderstanding about the nature of love.” And that was an understatement with Ted Bundy. The prior life intense emotional pain may result in a present tendency to cut yourself off from fully experiencing the richness of love out of fear of being hurt once more. Ted Bundy was an illegitimate child who had no known father and he was raised by his grandparents. His early conditioning and attachment problems must have had a severe effect on his emotional growth.

After graduating from high school in 1965, Bundy spent a year at the University of Puget Sound (UPS) before transferring to the University of Washington (UW). In 1967 he became romantically involved with a UW classmate Stephanie Brooks. In early 1968 he dropped out of college. Shortly after Brooks ended their relationship, frustrated by what she described as Bundy’s immaturity and lack of ambition. In this year to 18 months transiting Neptune was conjuncting Bundy’s natal Venus, the apex of his Hygeian yod. As Venus is in his fourth house transiting Neptune would have been evoking all sorts of delusional thoughts and feelings. With natal Venus and Moon in his 4th house his memories of his mother would have been mixed with his whole romantic then crushing experience and obviously something snapped. At the same time transiting Chiron, Pluto, Uranus and Saturn are all squaring Bundy’s natal Uranus which quincunxed his Venus, Mercury and Juno. While he was enchanted with Brooks some unconscious reactions were taking place.

Psychiatrist Dorothy Lewis would later pinpoint this crisis as “probably the pivotal time in his development”. Ted Bundy was totally devastated by Brooks’s rejection enrolled for one semester at Temple University. In mid 1970, he re-enrolled at UW, this time as a psychology major. He became an honours student, well regarded by his professors. In 1971 he took a job at Seattle’s Suicide Hotline crisis center. There he met and worked alongside Ann Rule, a former Seattle police officer and aspiring crime writer who would later write one of the definitive Bundy biographies, “The Stranger Beside Me”. Rule saw nothing disturbing in Bundy’s personality at the time, describing him as “kind, solicitous, and empathetic”. During a trip to California on Republican Party business in the summer of 1973, Bundy rekindled his relationship with Brooks, who was amazed that he now was a serious, dedicated professional seemingly on the cusp of a distinguished legal and political career. In the fall of 1973 Bundy matriculated at UPS Law School and continued courting Brooks. They discussed marriage. In January 1974, however, he abruptly broke off all contact; her phone calls and letters went unreturned. Finally reaching him by phone a month later, Brooks demanded to know why Bundy had ended their relationship without explanation. In a flat, calm voice, he replied, “Stephanie, I have no idea what you mean” and hung up. He later explained, “I just wanted to prove to myself that I could have married her”; but Brooks concluded in retrospect that he had deliberately planned the entire courtship and rejection in advance as vengeance for the breakup she initiated in 1968. By then, Bundy had begun skipping classes at law school; by April, he had stopped attending entirely as young women began to disappear in the Pacific Northwest. The devastating experience with Stephanie Brooks may well have been an echo of his relationship with his mother and it clearly describes his Venus retrograde apex Hygiea behaviour. Allan Epstein describes a Venus quincunx person as one who is vulnerable to manipulation through the withholding of love (page 35). His victims all resembled Stephanie Brooks. With Venus in Scorpio quincunx Uranus in Gemini he needed to take an ethical path as learning to release the past suggests allowing the release of relationships that have not worked. Learning to be flexible rather than intense, unforgiving, obsessive and vengeful means allowing yourself to move on without emotional turmoil so you will grow and evolve rather than stultify or devolve.
What makes Bundy’s quincunxes worse is they are all retrogrades. Uranus Retrograde may be in a Groundhog Day situation where you are rerunning previous lifetimes. Uranus retrograde suggests that you are a free spirit and cannot be bound by seeking to have others understand what you are about. Your path may be long and crooked, but you can know extreme [but perverted] happiness while traveling it. Uranus retrograde relates to karmic family and societal difficulties. You may have difficulty with relationships because of your changeability. Your mental and emotional bodies may struggle with each other, as you know you need to do one thing while feeling that you need to do another”. Well that is enough about one baddie. Now I write about an amazing Hygeia woman who is totally the opposite of evil Ted.

MARY –APEX HYGEIA Quincunx SATURN retrograde and Quincunx JUPITER retrograde

Mary, who personifies the goddess Hygeia, came to me as a client a number of years ago. I performed with my divine guides some soul retrievals for her. She had just trained as a shamanic healer and she had been a masseur who works brilliantly with patients whose bodies have an invasion of cancer.

Many astrologers note the yod’s three facets: the first house, the sixth house and the eighth house. As a compassionate woman, shamanic practitioner and mother Mary addresses people’s personality and soul (as the Ascendant first house is in esoteric astrology. As a masseuse who works with oncological clients Mary looks at health issues and diet. As a shamanic practitioner- energy healer Mary works with the eighth house subconscious behaviours that result, first, on a psychological level from not being aware of oneself. Second, Mary would also be aware of ancestral or intergenerational shadow patterns that surface in yoddish people, whom, at a soul level, volunteer to take on a mediation-catalyst role for the family shadow. Unconsciously or consciously thoughts may eventually turn into invasive life threatening cancers. A shamanic practitioner can extract or remove these etheric forms.

This is one of her posts on Facebook and it speaks highly of Mary: The pinkification of breast cancer does very little to raise actual practical awareness. Instead, I’m offering some more practical tips from Sarah Johnston-Knight:
* Check the ingredients in your deodorant. We have very important lymph glands in those armpits and their job is to expel toxins. Chemicals on the skin just makes them have to work much harder. Find a natural more caring brand, have a day off from wearing any at all every now and again. And if you have to wear it, made sure it isn’t an antiperspirant! If your diet is good you shouldn’t smell too bad anyway. If you do smell bad, your body is doing its job, it is expelling toxins.
* Use natural skin care products
*Detox your home of harmful chemicals and go for organic, low allergy products – anything that touches your skin you should investigate the ingredients, including washing and dish washing products.
*Stop eating sugar; it’s one of the most toxic substances in the modern diet and leads to many health issues.
* When you are relaxing at home take your bra off, those straps and wires restrict the flow of the lymphatic fluid that is working really hard to remove toxins from your body. If you can, find a comfortable wire free bra if you really have to wear one during the day.
* If you consume animal products please try to switch to the organic variety, you really don’t want all those added hormones floating around in your body playing havoc with your endocrine system. Butter, milk and soup bones are the easiest (and least expensive) place to start switching to organic.
* If you have unresolved emotions, talk to someone, get some counselling or talk to someone who you trust. Thoughts can be toxic too and grief can lead to dis-ease.
* Drink lots of water, move your body, massage yourself (or get someone else to) and really invest in your health, it is the most important thing you have.
*Get out in the morning or late afternoon sun, exercise, walk, laugh & have fun.
* Do what you love – being trapped in a job you hate or even a relationship that isn’t supportive is denying the nurturing and love your body needs. Follow your heart and your passion.

Mary has two yods with Hygeia as part of the yod. In her first yod she has Hygeia as the apex of a yod. Hygeia is in Taurus on the 8th/9th house cusp. Hygeia quincunxes Saturn in Sagittarius retrograde in the 3rd house. Hygeia also quincunxes Jupiter in Libra in the 1st house in Libra. Jupiter is retrograde too. The second yod has Saturn as the apex of the yod with Hygeia and Juno in Cancer quincunxing Saturn. The third yod she has Juno in the tenth house as the apex and Saturn and Chiron in Aquarius in the fifth house quincunxing Juno. Mary’s Hygeia is in the 8th house so her psychological, mental, spiritual and physical health depends on de-traumatising her challenging past lives and ancestral lives both of which are revealed in her 8th house and in her 9th house of travel and moving to a foreign country. Mary’s ancestors came from Europe and even her daughter’s past lives cantered around the ancestral country. Usually one’s nodal axis reinforces the newly aware yoddish person and Mars’s North Node is in Scorpio. Her Neptune retrograde conjuncts the North Node.
Marys’ Hygeia quincunxes Saturn retrograde and Jupiter retrograde. And this is why I suggest to all my clients with yods that we do some healing of their past lives. Probably three–quarters of my clients are happy to clear past lives. Retrogrades operate through multiple dimensions at the same time. Schulman states that the person may “be either behind or ahead of himself in this life while still another part of self is not yet in this life at all. In addition to this lack of synchronization with chronological time, which in itself would be enough to upset most individuals, he also experiences on still another plane, a rather unique orientation in space.” I always suggest that the client buy a copy of Barbara Hand Clow’s book “The Eye of the Centaur” as this describes the author before she worked with a psychologist-hypnotherapist who helped her see all her past lives which were plaguing her. Again quoting Schulman: “The Retrograde planet, with its powerful karmic lessons being brought forward in this life tends to emphasize the matter or form side of life, throwing man into the more primitive parts of himself where his struggle for survival amid the conditions and people around him becomes predominant over the fulfillment of his Soul”. And this strange state is where the clients in denial about their yoddish behaviour are stuck.

Schulman maintains this potential schizophrenia becomes even more heightened in the case of the personal retrogrades (Mercury, Venus, & Mars) through which man deals with the very same intimate, personal, and private parts of himself which he has been struggling with since his beginning in time.” It is comforting and encouraging to know “that soul and spirit are above the laws of karma” and all difficulties can be resolved with determination and self-awareness. Much spiritual growth can take place through the overcoming of the difficulties involved with retrograde planets and yods and quincunx aspects.

Mary has Saturn retrograde. Her Saturn and Jupiter are both retrograde or they were stuck in another time and both quincunx her Hygiea. Saturn is the planet of self-discipline, and it helps us bear our karma and successfully pass our tests. Until we willingly accept self-discipline, we experience Saturn as feelings of limitation, deprivation, delay, and disappointment and therefore there is denial and blame if they are not ready to evolve. This is exactly how Mary felt. Those that harbour these negative feelings seem unable to see that Saturn’s real need is to grant us wisdom and compassion. Saturn retrograde indicates a second chance at perfecting a botched life, so some may feel the burden of dealing with two lifetimes at once. So Mary, before we healed the Saturn lifetime, experienced inner doubts about her self-worth and her ability to overcome difficulties. The good news is that her soul knew she had achieved the spiritual maturity required to re-do successfully a lifetime, but only after she had embarked on her shamanic healer training. Before that she was a very unhappy person . She had in prior lifetimes advanced through great personal struggles and sacrifices. Now, as she learned to flow with Saturn’s discipline, she will be rewarded with enormous wisdom. Saturn in retrograde develops the capacity to tap into all of her past life wisdom and talents, so it is obvious that Saturn retrograde is a sign of an old soul who has advanced far on the spiritual path. They have come back for one last time to perfect what they have learned.
Certainly the depressed Mary I met years ago before she began learning shamanism and I enlisted the help of my divine guides to clear her toxic past lives no longer exists. The beautiful woman who works with patients to either save them from death (Hygeia in the 8th) and ease their journey through death fully encapsulates the bountiful (Jupiter) reality (Saturn) of Hygeia (holistic health and joyful living is now larger than life itself.

CASE THREE :FINBAR. HYGEIA in TAURUS in the 7th house conjunct ADMETOS quincunx NEPTUNE in Sagittarius & quincunx PLUTO in LIBRA
Finbar’s yod activation point is widely conjunct his first house Moon conjunct Cupido. Eileen Nauman in her excellent article on Cupido states that: “On a spiritual level, Cupido can connect the person with their divineness, which means they could bring back incredible skills from former lifetimes and utilize them in this incarnation. This only happens when the person aligns themselves with their own, inner core of who they are in this lifetime.” Eileen also suggest that Cupido people (Finbar’s Cupido sextiles his Sun too) are in a present lifetime that revolves around issues of love, being loved, how to be loving and how to receive love from others. Finbar’s heart chakra is very important as, first, he has a Libra ascendant which is ruled by Venus, the mother of Cupido and second, here Cupido is in Taurus which is ruled by Venus. Cupido people learn the levels of love and move upward into a state of continual compassion. Hygeia here is midpoint Chiron in Aries and Cupido which suggests to me that Hygeia is cleaning and making whole a wound that indicates you may not feel loved and your self-esteem may need polishing. This is echoed by Moon conjunct Uranus which indicates a mother who seemed cold but really did love you. Eileen Nauman maintains that Cupido people are always optimistic about life and no matter how difficult their life is, they always see the positive side of it. They are very optimistic people, generally speaking. They see beauty in everything and every one. But this may also suggest a “caregiver” archetype where you are the chief ‘mother’ to your spouse, children or family. And along with Moon-Uranus trauma the stress from always watching that you must ‘look after’ creates immune system problems and you may get burned out, fatigued, used up and exhausted. This is echoes by your ‘motherly’ and ‘very responsible’ Sun conjunct Saturn conjunct Mercury mental attitude. It also echoes your Ceres conjunct Juno conjunct Jupiter in Pisces in your fifth house. This small stellium suggests a huge motherly-wifely caring behaviour, which brings you great joy but puts others first and you last.

Now let’s look at Hygeia midpoint Admetos–Chiron as the apex of Finbar’s yod. Hygeia here is ready to clean out this wound and bring healing. What are the wounds? Well first they centre around partnership (7th house Chiron-Hygeia) and he money of the partner (8th house Admetos) as apex or the foot of the yod. Admetos according to Eileen Nauman can indication suffocation around feeling of anxious because of a partnership, a stultifying, a meaningless job, or physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually suffocated by family or circumstances. Autism, where one has a deep inner life but no outlet to the real world, is also under the rulership of Admetos. Silent people who enjoy quiet time are Admetos people. Give them the mountains, hiking, camping, fishing, riding and they’re happy. They do not like crowds. Being alone recharges their battery. This again is echoed by Pluto conjunct Ascendant. Every Admetos person has mother (Moon) issues. The more hard aspect to the person’s Moon will stamp the Admetos person heavily and scar them for life. Not every woman is capable of cuddly mothering, so Admetos may search all of his life for sustenance, life quenching, life giving experiences through people, places and things.

But says Eileen Nauman, regardless of the cold mother, no one has more ideas than Admetos. They can tap into the world of archetypal symbols, past and present, so the treasure chest of all knowledge from all times and cultures becomes available to them. They write or talk or teach on a wide, broad canvas that few people can match or imitate. They are a seed of all possibilities from all times or eras and often Admetos people are inventors, who love all the ancient sciences. At the highest level, Admetos people are hooked into the fractal world and reflect completely new theories and concepts. And although there are negatives in their life that first eighteen years, Admetos draws in mentors, experiences and situations that allows Admetos to bloom over a long period of time. So Finbar with his Admetos-Hygeia apex in his yod is a “late bloomer”, but when he blooms it’s an ongoing, amazing process that leaves people in awe.

But Eileen Nauman suggests that the Admetos people need to check for high cortisol levels if they have come out of a dysfunctional family, a family where abuse of any type was practiced and or suffered some type of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and they still have it. High cortisol is caused by PTSD. It is a ‘hidden’ element and hormone that can make a person feel like a monster is inside of them (the PTSD reactions) and they struggle to suppress or repress it by looking and behaving ‘normally’ but they don’t feel normal. My acupuncturist gives me a herbal mixture of dong quai and bipleurum that strips out the cortisol and calms my nerves. Forgiveness for the childhood wounds is vital for Chiron-Hygeia-Admetos. If Admetos can not work through the wounds and give them ‘life’ or ‘voice,’ then they will attract a dis-ease. If they can release the bitterness of their childhood, make peace with their mother, then their health will improve remarkably. This is so important for the two quincunxing aspects to the Hygiea-Admetos aspect.
Careers for Admetos people can be :
• Working with jewelry; gemstones, gem essences, faceting and being a “rock hound” or rock hobbyist.
• Geology.
• Mining.
• Environmentalist.
• Landscaper.
• Real estate work/job/career.
• Architect.
• Artist of any type.
• Writer.
• Psychologist or detective.
• Farmer.
• Gardener.
• Police person.
• Builder.
• Song writer.
• Philosopher.
• Visionary who makes physical manifestation occur.
• Meditation is very necessary for the Admetos person. Because they are fully tapped into the Cosmic Treasure chest, this ‘time out’ is like a car filling up with gas. Only, for Admetos, it renews their energy and helps them to move back into balance.

Finbar is much more in touch with the cosmos than the material world and he knows far more than you can express in words. He may tend not to trust his intuition, even though you are highly intuitive. Please practice listening to your intuition. Neptune quincunxing Admetos and Hygeia makes the issue of being obligated to one’s partner (Hygeia in the 7th) and their money (Admetos in the 8th ) even more of a burden. Hygiea rules mental health and Finbar needs to use a high pressure hose to cleanse the whole idea of self-sacrifice. He also needs to sanitise the idea of unrealistic ideals that lead to disillusionment and clean out problems of self-doubt, uncertainty and allowing others to use your vulnerable, compassionate nature. Solitude and more superficiality (Venus in Gemini as ruler of Hygeia) instead of intensity will nurture your inner nature and allow you to breathe. Travelling, dancing, photography and art or creativity of some kind with really help.
The other leg or side of the yodal triangle is Pluto in Libra in the 12th house. Pluto rules elimination so here old, useless, obsessive, over-analytical, manipulating, controlling and stuck ideas, especially from one’s childhood needs to be cleansed and sanitised (Hygeia) so you can be mentally and physically healthy. Spontaneity and letting go and letting God allow you to breath and relax.

Finbar needs to develop an appreciation of his own skills and talents. This goes hand in hand with developing a sense of self-worth. With an eighth house aspect you may value the work and talents of others more than your own. A sense of personal values will be born out of inner fears, risks, personal morality and ethics. As Hygeia is in the 7th house the activating point here is the first house and here this whole life time emphasis is about the development of a strong sense of self, which with a Libra Moon and Ascendant is very difficult. Rather than assimilate the partner’s mannerism, ideas, values, outlook and perceptions one must develop one’s own ideas, values and career. In past incarnations a sense of self-responsibility has not been developed. We must have a strong sense of self-awareness to be spiritually aware and to be able to grow.
Both Hygeia and Pluto in quincunx indicate cleansing or eliminating all that will not bring health of mind, body and soul. So Finbar may have to work very hard at letting go of old ideas so he can assimilate new ideas. This placement may be obsessive about sexual love to increase situations of certainty and security in his life. Along with Neptune-Hygeia the Hygeia in Taurus-7th house and Pluto in Libra in this yod, he is very romantic and idealistic and he needs to utilise his Venusian-Neptunian-12th house creativity into a career so music, photography, dancing, the ocean or waterways, a study of earthquakes and or volcanoes or tsunamis, poetry, mystical visions , fantasy, travel or entertainment is incorporated into his path in life. Finbar, your Part of Fortune is in your fourth house of home family and roots, and you have Sun, Mercury and Saturn in Cancer, so please go back to your childhood and see what gifts and talents you were born with have that been swept under your proverbial carpet and then look at your family shadow and see whether you can utilise any repressed family talents.

Best Wishes to Mary and Finbar and best wishes to all who read this article.

GODS hygeia (Small)

Jung believed that we become self -aware and heal our soul through rediscovering and connecting with the archetypal world. He also believed that through interacting with the  world of archetypes (the anima, animus, the shadow  and our particular goddess and god archetypes) we cleanse and evolve our soul. We interact with this archetypal world through symbols. According to Jung, our soul speaks to us in this language of images through dreams and through archetypal symbols. Astrological planets are archetypal symbols and our birth charts are a unique “map of our soul” that can illuminate the relationship between our conscious and unconscious mind.

Consequently,  Hygeia is a goddess of and symbol of holistic wellbeing, self-empowerment, purification and healing if she is in positive placements in one’s horoscope. When physicians become qualified they must swear to be ethical according to the Hippocratic Oath (Greek physician C5th to C4th B.C.) which states:
“I swear by Apollo the physician, and Asclepius (Asclepius), and Hygeia, and Panacea (Panacea), and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation . . .”
Hygeia is the personification of physical health and mental health (or sanity)  in your chart. If she shows up in your chart conjuncting your Ascendant, Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Mercury, chart ruler, IC or MC you will be attracted by the holistic approach to health. The spiritual side of us melds with our mind and body to create  holistic health.

Her symbol is the serpent twining around the staff of Mercury, the psychopomp; the one god  who could rescue people from death. As Apollo was Hygeia’s grandfather the serpent was also the serpent of Delphi: the python who represented the healing power of his matriarchal side; that of the Great Mother.

Hygeia exactly conjuncts my Moon, sextiles my Midheaven and trines my Mercury and serves as an inspiration and a symbol of my counseling and shamanic health practice. Hygeia can be viewed as a spiritual framework or as a convenient classical analogy depending upon your own orientation.

Hygeia’s cult in ancient Greece depended on healing dreams and dream oracles. Those who practice in the realms of the unconscious strive to bring awareness to their clients. Traumas buried deep in the past can effect current life situations (and dreams). Hypnosis, like dreams, induces a different state of consciousness that is in some situations an appropriate mechanism for healing. Meditation can lead to important life insights and greater peace in one’s life.

Just as I see Chiron as the astrological symbol of holistic healing and the Rainbow Bridge which links earthly reality and the transcendent realms leading to a healthy whole; Hygeia is the feminine symbol of holistic health. Hygeia is named for the classical goddess of hygiene, health, sanitation, wisdom, purity, soundness of mentality and spirituality and holistic well-being. Sanitation comes from the Latin root ‘sanare’ to heal and includes the ideas of sanity and the sanitarium. Hygeia’s symbol is the caduceus- two snakes winding around the staff of the magician healer. We see here a link to Hermes in his alchemical aspect. The asteroid Hygeia’s placement in an astrological chart signifies purification, as well as meanings associated with health issues, sickness, cure, and the moral and physical wholeness that are implicit in ideas of good health or good order. This is similar to the rune Ansuz which also means good order as a manifestation of pure “spirit.” Thus she is the opposite or polarity of Eris in your chart. Eris brings chaos  and often retribution, but wherever Hygeia goes in the horoscope, she has a way of cleaning up things, bringing them into a very pure, even ideal, state of being.

Hygeia intensifies and cleanses any other planetary energy with which she links, and assists it to express in a cleaner, stronger, truer form. Sometimes this poses real challenges and problems, making circumstances appear worse before they get better. Then Hygeia seems to act like the force behind a fever, which can rise to dangerous heights before it breaks, and the healing occurs. It’s all about getting the poison out first, so that wholeness can be restored, or aided to form. The poison is more often metaphorical than literal, of course. Hygeia always helps you to scrub up, or purge. She’s a catalyst for action as well as a force for intensifying and purifying other energies. However testing a time you have whilst she’s busy, you’re always left in much better shape when she has finished with you.
Hygeia’s healing in ancient Greece was held in sleep temples. The priestesses used healing dreams and dream oracles. So they realised that traumas buried deep in the past can effect current life situations and reveal themselves dreams. Hypnosis, like dreams, induces a different state of consciousness that is in some situations an appropriate mechanism for healing. Meditation can lead to important life insights and greater peace in one’s life.

Her gift of medicine can be taken literally too. Sometimes certain psychological conditions require medication, but only maybe. Is there an alternative? Can we use hypnotherapy or soul retrieval for psychological conditions? Medication, if carefully considered, can be the best option for some people. But what medication? Good, healthy fresh food (grown at home if we can), free of genetic engineering and of poisons and raw or cooked at home; and herbs, maybe grown in our garden are good medication. I would rather a combination of bloodroot, aloe vera, zinc chloride and chaparral any day to get rid of skin cancers than having invasive surgery under an aesthetic. “Medicine” is also being true to our “totems or spirit guides” Indigenous people always ask; what is your medicine or sometimes what is your “skin” or what is your Dreaming? These mean the same thing. For example they may mean are you a Rock person, Rainbow person, a Bear person, Star woman or a saltwater person? Also do we use homeopathy instead of medical drugs. The Sun and the wind and the negative ions from waterfalls are medication and so are flower remedies.

Hygeia is health personified and confident mastery of one’s self. Hygeia used in the positive sense in our chart indicates that we become our own Master and take control of our destiny. Hygeia is health personified. The ancient Greeks worked hard at maintaining their own health. Taking personal responsibility and internal control of our problems instead of being helplessly battered about by external forces is vital, but I also have compassion. If a person was born prematurely and has been emotionally, physically and mentally abused or tortured and traumatised in wars or cults and bullied in the work place or at school or battered by domestic violence so they don’t know who they are and they bob around like a cork in the ocean it is lacking in compassion to say, “Pull yourself together; have a spine and a stiff upper lip!” If you say that to a person who has only emptiness inside and post-traumatic stress disorder or some such problem you are a fool. They need to learn self-empowerment. With our soul out to dinner we may not be able to do that.

As a Holographic Kinetics energy healing  practitioner and shamanic practitioner I can isolate planetary energies and cleanse the offending parts of them for they are Middle World beings and these beings are without morals and ethics. So I am a channel to heal the planets and energies in your chart and have had significant successes in this area to bring clients who are diagnosed as having Autism or Asperger’s syndrome back to a state of not having autistic spectrum disorder. Many of these people have been priests in past lives or are stuck in Saturnian time warps. (The world of theta vibrations- the collective unconscious and the Dreamtime have no time, so when I enter that vibration we can work without the constraints of time. ) To be stuck in another time is very disturbing to the body and etheric energy and this state of timelessness will make people very ill. This is where my Sun conjunct Chiron in Capricorn aspect works well because I can work with the Lords of time and karma. Chiros time is an all-dimensional time, whereas Saturn time is the dimension we are in now. As a shamanic practitioner and medium one can move from beta vibrations where we are now through to alpha brainwaves which is a mediation state through to theta brainwaves which is the state where we can access the Askashic Records or the collective unconscious.

The cult of Hygeia began in Classical Athens in the 600s B[efore] C[hrist], in connection with the cult of Athena, goddess of wisdom and purity. Statues of Athena and Hygeia stood at the entrance to the Acropolis temple in Athens. Hygeia was a young goddess, daughter and chief attendant to Asclepius, the god of medicine. She was in charge of cleanliness and how to live a long life (preventive medicine). She also had two other medical sisters: Panacea (‘Cure-All’) and Iaso (‘Remedy’). The Romans named her Salus. As a sculpture she held or fed a large snake (the symbol of Asklepion medicine) in her arms. This snake also was reminiscent of the Python, the symbol of the old Earth Mother and matriarchal culture which was toppled by the Dorians and Achaeans. Hygeia’s symbol was a large water basin and a snake. Hippocratic doctors from the 300s onwards gradually formulated a philosophy of hygiene that covered every possible aspect of health – mind, body and environment. Statues of Hygeia were erected in all the major healing centers sited in the temples of Asclepius: in Epidaurus, Corinth, Cos and Pergamum.

However, as a pupil of Chiron her history no doubt goes back to before 13,000 years ago when Atlantis existed.

While her father Ascelepius was more directly associated with healing, Hygeia was associated with the prevention of sickness and the continuation of good health. Her name is the source of the word “hygiene”. Hygeia became Salus, the Roman goddess of health, social welfare and prosperity. Thus we see so many offshoots in present day holistic health which promote hygienic thinking: mindfulness, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, mediation, yoga, deep breathing (pranayama), awareness of toxic thinking, Louise Hay’s affirmations, shamanic counselling, wholistic counselling, all sorts of psychotherapy (minus medications) and shamanic journeying (minus plant enhancing drugs- no, I do not approve of them.)

Since ancient times, those who worked in the medical or healing field have noticed the close relationship between cleanliness and health. Pestilence and disease flourish where filth, darkness and impurities accumulate. If you cleanse your body, (your house, your car and your career) both inwardly and outwardly, through diet, exercise, lifestyle and physical regimen, and most diseases are greatly ameliorated, or vanish of their own accord. No cancer can take hold where our body is alkaline. In her personifying the value of diet and hygiene in health maintenance and disease prevention, Hygeia is the antithesis and complement to Asclepius. We look to Asclepius for medical miracles in times of crisis, but in the Chinese model as well, first let us do all we can to maintain our health and prevent disease ourselves. Our body has amazing powers of self-healing if we keep it clean and live in accordance with Nature’s laws.

In later Classical Greek times Athena took Hygiea as part of her persona. Hygiea was one of Chrion’s pupils so we know she is very old and goes back to before 13,000 years ago. Athena is relatively new in the Greek pantheon. Hygiaea as Athena is a significator of creative intelligence in your chart. She denotes our type of intelligence and style of perception, our capacity for inspired vision, intuition, curiosity, genius. Because Tiresias was blinded by the beauty of Athena bathing naked she gave him miraculous powers of insight, or prophecy. If you have stressful aspects to Athena you may have auditory or visual perceptual problems, colour blindness, dyslexia, autism, poor hand-eye coordination, poor problem solving ability, limited vision or hearing, learning difficulties or disabilities or at the very worst mental retardation (which also can be tied in with an abusive childhood environment which can lower the IQ by 30 points.) We must realise that our outer world is shaped by our thoughts so guided imagery and daily meditation and affirmations will restore not just calm and lower anxiety but benefit greatly Athena issues. Athena people have a capacity for whole pattern perception (mine is in the top 99% of the world population) and the ability to conceive and coordinate schema and paradigms for systems. They have the wisdom of strategy, foresight, planning, rational thought and determination which lead to academic careers, artistic and advertising careers, careers as systems analysts, military strategists, political, academic and scientific careers.

Hygeia holds a medicine bowl or alchemical mixing bowl in most of her statues. It also could symbol; the cup of tarot, where if our emotions, soul and heart are brimming over with love our health is perfect. (I see here Divine love as much as Eros and Psyche.) Hence if we see her as an aspect of the multi-dimensional Great Mother or Mother Earth, this we can see her bowl as a symbol of sustenance; the cornucopia of Amalthea or the importance of living in harmony with the earth and daily in the spirit of gratefulness of acknowledging where our gifts come from. I have always seen Mother Earth as a sacred place and I believe that it’s possible to build a joyful, full life in the here-and-now state of being regardless of your beliefs in an after-life.

So now you have a vision of the ultimate Hygeia as very strong and self-assured. She handles the snake (and no doubt other fears and burdens) in her life with practiced ease and success. So whatever health practioner we are, we aim for this vision as a pure intention with our clients. We aim for them to be self-empowered like Hygeia. The intention of honoring and emulating one archetypal energy of feminine divinity suggests that all people (women, minorities, and anyone other people) are equally sacred and inestimately precious. Hygeia, as an archetype symbolizes with her bowl of water and Kundalini staff, the fresh cleansing nurturing waters of the world. Her temples were frequently located upon the sites of sacred wells which had healing properties, just as Mother Mary’s wells are full of healing waters on the Michael Mary leylines in Britain and the Athena wells on the Apollo-Athena line which stretches from Skellig off Ireland through Mont Saint Michel through Italy, the Holy Land and Greece are also healing places. I would hope that my healing practice brings fresh cleansing ideas and practices that stir the imagination and help to find new answers and perspectives.

The serpent that Hygeia holds symbolizes the soul, deep wisdom, and healing. It is also a symbol of transformation, deep understanding of the deepest levels of oneself (including any trauma and power: self-empowerment. The snake is the symbol of Scorpio the sign of the transformation healer and all that is secret. Hence Hygeia in your chart hints that you know deep within yourself the secret to your own improvement. As therapists we can help a client self-actualize that inner truth or as the client we can see that shining diamond of truth when our Hygeia is progressed or transitted strongly. Although Hygeia holds the medicine bowl the snake that chooses whether or not to help itself by partaking. So she symbolizes the choice taking internal control and making the choice for wellness or maybe giving away one’s power to others or the medical fraternity. To go deep within yourself is to get in touch with the unconscious older reptilian parts of your brain that hold great wisdom. The link of snakes to wisdom and healing flows from the ancient idea that the dead went into the ground to dwell in Hades which in the Greek world was a dreamlike land neither good nor bad. (Hell was a rubbish dump outside Jerusalem and was a Christian idea.) Snakes, as ground-dwelling creatures, had contact with the dead and might even carry the souls of ancestors returning to help you. (Look at the 8th house symbolism here.) So they could bring great wisdom. Diseases in ancient times and in Indigenous societies and indeed in shamanism were sometimes thought caused by evil spirits. So, one way of affecting a cure would be to get a really strong good spirit to come help you. Thus snakes were also associated with healing. So Hygeia can send us into 8th house thinking where with we can with therapy can find events in the “dead” past that explain and help cure the behaviors and sorrows of today. It’s possible to access strong lost abilities that can turn around problems in your life.

Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning “serpent power”. It refers to the rising of the life force energy within you. While representative of a spiritual awakening, it’s also very physical, health-oriented, and here-and-now. Snakes are very “grounded” creatures and entirely practical in their approach to life. Hygeia displays a fully active and arisen Kundalini power with her calm approach, her large snake and healing alchemical bowl, as she embodies perfect health. In today’s frenetic pace and myriad negative energies whatever healing you seek- psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, dream therapy, shamanic journeys, herbs, kinesiology, yoga, diet, exercise we need to be holistic and be practical, and here-and-now in our intention. Consequently, Hygeia seems to symbolize health energies within the self, the mastery of one’s self and problems, internal locus of control and self-esteem necessary to face challenges, and clear communication with the dreamy, “dead” parts of self that lie in the unconscious and in the past (which include this life, past life and ancestral past. In this regard Hygeia as symbolic of therapy and a healing modality echoes Chiron.

My Moon is exactly conjunct Hygiea. I have friends who have Hygeia prominent in their charts. A friend who is a medical intuitive has Moon conjunct Hygeia (in the second house) conjunct Sun in Aquarius conjunct Venus in Pisces in the 3rd house. She also uses herbs. I have another friend, a shamanic practitioner who has Hygeia in his first house conjunct Mars conjunct Ascendant in Gemini. He is a gifted healer who uses hands on healing. He also is a great networker with his construction world friends who use alternative health therapies.

Another dear friend of mine who is a famous astrologers told me: “Hygiea is conjunct my Uranus in Gemini in the second house. Uranian energy has been a great resource for me. Over the years, the practice of astrology has helped me to subsist, often putting bread on the table. The only time before this during which I read about Hygiea is in a book called “A Spiritual Bouquet from the Ascended Lady Masters”, copyright 1978 by White Dove and Samuel George Partridge, published by Samuel George Partridge. The book consists of channeled messages from Lady Masters, and a message from Hygiea is one of them.”

Astrologer Kim Falconer in her wonderful book:” Astrology and Aptitude: How to become what you were meant to become” writes” “When Hygeia is strongly placed with an inner planet (which would include the luminaries- the Sun and Moon) and angle (IC, MC, Ascendant or Descendant) there is a strong link to the medical professions, health concerns, research, and study in these areas and in general health care. There may be high physical fitness or need to be physically fit. Louis Pasteur had his Hygeia in Aquarius conjunct his IC. ”

Another friend has Hygeia in the 8th house in Gemini, midpoint Saturn Mercury. He told me: “My Hygeia makes a near exact air grand trine with my Moon and NN. Whatever I do or happen, it’s very important that for me that I cognitively understand the reason or motivation behind, or I couldn’t take thing in and process it. Though I am quite good at ‘holding the space’ until it reveals itself at a later time. In recent years, I become interested in herbal remedies. I qualified as a counsellor instead and I learned biodynamic therapy, am learning bioenergetics (postural/structural integration), and plan to learn more about bodynamics. My aim is to integrate these three separate body psych orientations into one stream.

If we see Hygeia as the Roman Hygeia of social welfare Karl Marx had Hygeia in the second house in militaristic Aries midpoint his Sun in compassionate Pisces and Eris in socially minded Aquarius in the 12th house of the collective mind. Hygiea is also opposite Vesta the asteroid of the Sate in the 8th house of politics. It is noteworthy that the first subject all social work students have to learn is a whole subject on Karl Marx and Marxian theory as a backbone of sociology and social work. Our present day society’s shadow or our unhygienic side is the presence of millions of homeless people who mostly live in our sewage system under our cities . I tutored in Introductory Social Work and lectured in Human Welfare at university.

Louis Pasteur the father of modern hygiene has Hygeia conjunct his IC conjunct his North Node in Aquarius. His Hygeia is the apex of a T Square configuration between Saturn on his Taurus DESC and his Libran Ascendant. He very well could have been an artist with his ASC ruler, Venus conjunct his Mercury, Sun, Neptune and Uranus in his third house.

The famous doyen of nutrition and dietetics, Adelle Davis had Hygeia in her 7th house in Cancer (the masses). The ruler of Cancer, the Moon is in her sixth house conjunct Pluto. Her Hygeia trines harmoniously Jupiter in Pisces in the 3rd house of communication and sextiles her North Node in Virgo (health) in the 9th house of publishing.

Carl Jung, father of modern transpersonal psychotherapy and dream therapy had Hygeia at 3 degrees Cancer quincunx his Aquarian Ascendant and sextile his Neptune conjunct IC and trine his MC. Through his Hygeian aspects to his MC and IC we can see his holistic approach to spiritual- mental psychotherapy.

Well known shamanic practitioner, homeopath and nutritionist Eileen Nauman is a well grounded person who practices an holistic way of living and has taught many shamanic practitioners world wide. Her Hygeia is in the 8th house of ancesters and she often talks of her Irish-Cherokee background as an enormous influence on her life. Her Hygeia is trine her Mars in the 12th house of the collective unconscious and sextile her Uranus conjunct North Node in Gemini in the 10th house. Hygeia opposes her Chiron conjunct Jupiter in the second. She writes for an income.
Anton Mesmer is the father of modern hypnotism. His Hygiaea is exactly midpoint his Sun and Moon conjunct Athena conjunct Mars. His Hygiea is in the 9th house of spirituality. His Hygiea also trines Jupiter in the 5th house of fun.

If you work in an area of wholistic healing I would be very interested in hearing where your Hygeia lies in your chart.

I have had Demetra George’s book the asteroid Goddesses since it came out here in 1985. I met her in 1997 at a conference where I had a reading with her and sat with her at her table quite a lot. We became friends and I was so sorry I couldn’t go on her Greek tour last year in October. Like me she combines astrology with mystical experiences. I was puzzled though that she did not include Hygeia in her “Asteroid Goddess” book as it is, along with Ceres, Pallas Athena, Vesta and Juno one of the five biggest asteroids in the 100,000 asteroids in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. So I have decided to write a book on Hygeia.
When I joined the Federation of Australian Astrologers in 1984 I decided to sit for their exams. (Surprise!) The first certificate comprises quite a lot of astronomy and a large amount of mathematical calculations as no one had computers in those days, let alone computer programs. I have been interested in astronomy since I was a child.

Most asteroids only measure a few miles in diameter. Ceres is 620 miles across. Pallas Athena measures 350 miles, Vesta 310 and Juno 140 miles. Hygeia is large with a somewhat oblong diameter of 350–500 km, and a mass estimated to be 2.9% of the total mass of the belt, it is the fourth largest asteroid by volume and mass. Hygeia’s properties are the most poorly known out of the “big four” objects (Vesta, Juno and Athena as well as Hygeia) in the asteroid belt. Ceres is the largest and has just been upgraded to a “dwarf planet.” Hygeia, like Ceres, has a relatively low density, which is more comparable to the icy satellites of Jupiter or Saturn than to the terrestrial planets or the stony asteroids. Hygeia is an unusually slow rotator, taking 27 hours and 37 minutes for a revolution, whereas 6 to 12 hours are more typical for large asteroids. Despite its size, due to its dark surface and larger-than-average distance from the Sun, it appears very dim when observed from Earth. For this reason several smaller asteroids were observed before Annibale de Gasparis discovered Hygeia on April 12, 1849. At most oppositions, Hygeia has a magnitude that is four orders lower than Vesta’s, and observing it will require at least a 100 mm (4-inch) telescope, while at a perihelic opposition, it may be observable with 10×50 binoculars. Vesta can be seen with the naked eye because it is metallic (volcanic basalt) rather than icy.

Recent evidence amazes astronomers. As the solar system began to form about 4.5 billion years ago, planets were born from collisions of dust and rock. The numerous chunks that stayed relatively small formed asteroids, while others eventually grew through accretion to the size of planets. It seems that they have discovered that these worlds once were extraordinarily hot, but they eventually cooled from the outside, forming a crust around a molten core.

Asteroids with molten cores could help explain mysteriously magnetic meteorites seen on Earth. Weiss and his colleagues have suggested that such magnetization most likely occurred in asteroids with a molten metallic core — a big shift from the traditional picture of an asteroid as a primordial, unmelted objects.

I hope you enjoy this article. I would love to hear your stories about Hygiea works in your chart. May you walk in beauty.
