INTRODUCTION

When Penny wrote to me she displayed a wish to “find information about the quincunxes in my natal chart. I’m fascinated by your blog posts, but also a bit new to fully understand the vastness of it all.”

I asked Penny why she wanted me to look at her quincunxes. She replied:
I am a creative deeply thinking person who wants to focus on moving into more loving and authentic self -expression. I’d like to take care of my body more as it been a challenge the past few years. I’d like to show and sell my art and transition away from my current job. I would like to attract a passionate partner and more soulful friends.

I wrote back and asked, “What is your current career?”

Penny replied:
I’m working as a soap production manager for an organic company in Colorado. I manage a production team as well as production planning and facility expansion as we are growing quickly. It’s been a busy job. I feel it’s very a masculine role despite the fact that’s it’s a skincare company. I also create. I paint and create mixed media art. My art is a passion and I would love to try become more serious about this passion of mine. I’ve sold a few pieces over the years however with the demands of work I feel I don’t have much energy to put my art on the forefront. The contrast between what I do and what I’d like to do is often on my mind.

When I answered Penny I wrote, “Penny I taught art in schools and at university, art depends on joy. Joy depends on energy. If we are tried or depressed, we do not have passion or joy and both of them are need to create vibrant art. I have been a professional artist for many years. Art depends on how organised you are so time management is essential. I believe you can keep you skin care management role and your artist role.”

PENNY’S OVERALL CHART CONTEXT

The first thing I checked were the elements in Penny’s horoscope. I wanted to check on the amount of earth she had in her chart, even though she had Saturn conjunct her Sun and Ascendant. Penny had two planets in air, (plus Chiron in Gemini in 7th), Neptune in earth, two planets and her Moon in fire and three planets, her Sun plus her Ascendant and South Node.

When people have a lack of earth, they can overdo their ability to organise and be organised and to be financially sufficient. Generally speaking, the earth element describes the ability to ground or naturally attune oneself to the physical world, physical body and the limitations or requirements needed for survival on the material plane. With too little Earth Penny may seem a bit “spacy” due to a lack of being grounded in the here and now. Their orientation to food, money, shelter and the physical body might be limited. Perhaps there should be more thought about eating healthy meals regularly, maintain the physical body with such daily rituals such as bathing, oral hygiene, shaving legs and or making sure the bills are paid. With this lack of the Earth Element the person may feel out of place in this world and this might lead to overwhelm or some beliefs that are not based on reality. Sometimes a person with weak earth may flit from job to job, or overspend and borrow money freely. Alternatively, they may overemphasize the practical by becoming secretaries or accountants, or being overly concerned about budgeting, details, and order. Because they do not feel grounded, they frequently seek security by adhering to a highly structured system of thought or by following an organized but rigid routine. But I would say, ‘Don’t leave your job with the organic company. Do your art on the weekend and make some friends in the art world. While it is great to paint, use multi-media or build artistic installations the most important thing about the art world is that one must make money and finance and health (like yods) are earth indicators. One of the more dangerous aspects of too little Earth, again, is ignoring the requirements of the physical body. Sometimes the physical needs may not even be considered at all, and when they are it can be very limited. Often these individuals fail to eat properly which leads to chronic nutritional ailments. Failing to get proper rest, or exercise at regular intervals also fall under the category of physical maintenance which is obviously so very important. For those lacking in the earth element maintaining a regular schedule in their lives will help considerably.

Penny’s chart is a funnel shape, otherwise known as a bucket chart with Chiron as funnel. The life theme is the energy associated with the bucket handle. The energy of the handle “holds” life together during both the good and the bad times. This shape is associated with a strong tendency towards conflict and crisis or the effort to avoid these situations (which is associated with passivity or with “subduing” to the energy of the bucket handle). However, even in this passive case the person will try sometimes heroically display the behaviour of the bucket handle. The Handle Planet is the most important planet of the Bucket Pattern, focusing the energy of the nine Bowl planets and acting as their point of release, in a manner described by the sign and in the life, arena described by the house of the Handle Planet. In the Bucket, the “cutting” planet (the clockwise planet in the rim opposition) is of secondary importance. With the Bucket Pattern one tends to direct his or her efforts towards a single purpose, and to emphasize self-projection. If your Handle Planet is directly above the centre of your Bowl, you are highly directed and can go to great lengths to achieve your goals. If a core opposition, an opposition from a planet in the centre of the Bowl to the Handle planet, is also present, you have a great, single-minded ambition as well.

In psychological terms, Chiron is the Inner Teacher to whom we owe our allegiance. The cluster of astrological ingredients surrounding it may symbolise the tests, disciplines and ordeals which unfold under the tutelage of this Inner Teacher, whose path is Life itself, whether or not this includes following a particular spiritual tradition. Major crises of learning experiences can be reflected by any factor in the horoscope, but they are likely to be interpreted and processed in a manner congruent with the Chiron configuration. We also have to remember that Chiron represents the Wound/The Wounder/The Healer in our chart. Working with the personal issues that Chiron represents in our horoscope provides a means of grounding ourselves in our humanity and also defining our unique contribution to this transition in which we are all participating in at this time. Before the Middle Path is found and appreciated, Chiron tends to manifest in a wounded “all or nothing” way. With maturity and surrender, however, a feeling of rightness may come, often having means or overtones of connection with the dharma, with some context larger than ourselves; this is Chiron`s gift to us. Planets aspecting Chiron here represent inner and outer forces with which we must contend, lest they pull us away from the dharma. Chiron in the 7th House indicates that she learns about appropriate relationships. When we add the quality of the Sign in which Chiron is placed, it fills out this description and suggests a “way of Being” which supports us in the area of life represented by Chiron’s house. Chiron’s sign position may also show how we seek to protect ourselves from our inner pain, what we draw on to try to deal with an area of our life which may be blocked. Thus, the sign of Gemini, the communicator, may provide a kind of bandage over our wound (as expressed by Chiron’s house position) and this bandage is often removed during a strong Chiron transit. By examining the Chiron configuration, as well as looking into the psychological process and events coinciding with the Chiron cycle in our life, we may be able to assist in the process of healing by trying to get a clearer idea of what is happening, and also of the purpose behind the suffering or crisis.

A stellium, known in older forms of astrology as a satellitium, is simply a cluster of three (or, if the moon or sun are involved, four) or more planets in a single sign or house. Having a stellium in your natal chart means your life will be heavily influenced by the traits commonly associated with that sign or house, particularly in the areas your stellium planets rule. Stelliums aren’t really that rare, but it’s not common either. The great thing about your stelliums is that your goals are more focused. You are more likely to be excavator of truth, of religion, or higher philosophical meaning. Beware of being too rigid in your own belief system. You’d be someone who can make a career connected to the global environment such as travel, teaching, import/export, or publishing. With a Sagittarius stellium, there can be a tremendous amount of energy for you to expand, explore, and experience. You can be super optimistic, always seeing the brighter side of life, and come up with the biggest, boldest ideas possible, but sometimes you’re all talk and no walk. You need to learn to back up what you say with action so you’re not just hot air. You need to find something that gives you the freedom to spread your wings and fly.

The unfortunate thing I believe about stelliums is that you will either connect really well with some people or you don’t. Stelliums are concentrations of energies the actual stellium centres around the 12th and 1st house. It begins with Venus at 4 degrees 53 minutes conjunct Pluto at 5 degrees Scorpio conjunct South Node at 9 degrees conjunct Juno at 13 degrees Scorpio conjunct Medea at 20 degrees Scorpio in the 12th house which conjuncts the Sun at 21 degrees and the Sun conjuncts the ascendant at 22 degrees Scorpio. Saturn in the 1st house at 29 degrees is conjunct her Moon in Sagittarius at 4 degrees. The Moon is conjunct Mercury at 13 degrees and Mercury is conjunct Uranus at 16 degrees.

So, Scorpio and Sagittarius dominate the stellium and the 12th and first house. Scorpio is a sign that is very intense and can be very internal or introverted. The big lesson is trusting your own intuition and be open with others. Try very hard not to be paranoid. Not everyone is out to get you or hurt you. Work on healthy outlets and slowly letting another people in. Yes, sometimes you see things in depths others may not and that’s okay. Get to know people and fairly give them a chance to know things about you at your own pace. Learn to be open to receiving from others and not just me delivering and being in control all the time.

Penny’s Sun 21 degrees in 12th house conjunct ASC in Scorpio 22 degrees
• inconjunct Hygeia at 20 degrees in Aries in 5th house
• (Sun square Trans Pluto at 20 degrees Leo 42 mins 9th house)
• Sun trine Astraea at 21 degrees 22 mins in Pisces in Pola’s 4th house)
• Sun conjunct Medea 20 degrees Scorpio
• Saturn 29 degrees Scorpio 1st house

Penny does have four quincunxes
1. Jupiter 9 degrees 47 minutes in the 3rd house inconjunct Athena,
2. North Node 9 degrees Taurus in the 6th house inconjunct Mars in libra 10 degrees 34 minutes,
3. Moon 4 degrees Sag conjunct Mercury at 13 degrees in the 1st house inconjunct Athena at 8 degrees Cancer in 8th house
4. and Sun in Scorpio 21 degrees quincunx Hygeia in Aries 20 degrees in her fifth house.

Tonight, I am only investigating her Sun quincunx Hygeia as a past life and as a relocated Sun in Spain.

SUN INCONJUNCT HYGEIA. In your birth chart Penny, a quincunx (inconjunct) shows where parts of your life and nature simply don’t add up. The theory that we have multiple “selves” within us supports a quincunx. Planets and asteroids involved in a quincunx have completely different missions. They have no shared traits, elements or qualities, and therefore can work with cross-purposes. A quincunx is like extreme astrological multi-tasking: We have to serve both planets and their contrasting agendas all at once. Here your intense Scorpio Sun is forming a quincunx to Hygeia in impatient, independent Aries. Hygeia is really interested in your health and wellbeing and that well -being is via fast moving, impulsively made romance, laughter and fun. Hygeia in Aries needs a lot of exercise or sport. Running or going to gym would be ideal, but to compromise with your Sun in Scorpio in the 12th swimming in a secluded place or walking sedately through an isolated forest seems ideal. They need to find a way to work together to avoid getting stuck in analysis paralysis AND making sloppy errors in haste. In fact, in the case of your watery intense Sun and this impulsive Hygeia each archetype can seem like aliens to each other, operating so differently that major adjustments need to be made for them to cooperate.

The Sun in astrology symbolizes the core essence of who you are; your individuality and sense of self. It describes what is likely to motivate you, and why. You seek creativity, healing, transformation, and regeneration and you are loyal, focussed, pure, intimate, and erotic. You can be seductive, manipulative, controlling, and possessiveness. When the Sun is found in the mysterious sign of Scorpio, there is an emphasis on the subtle and the profound. Motivated by a need to create emotional closeness with others, and then to experience the raw truth of that connection, those born with the Sun in Scorpio often have much to learn about the nature of intimacy and power. Scorpio is a complex sign with many dimensions of expression. When the Sun is found in Scorpio, there is a gift for penetrating to the core essence of reality, to see things and others as they truly are.

I will illustrate the differences in attitudes, beliefs, values and even times here between Hygeia in Aries in the fifth house which equates to 32,065 BC, in other words 34,035 years ago. We do know that 31,000–16,000 years ago was the “Last Glacial Maximum (which peaked at 26,500 years ago), but other than small bands of people living around Spain and the Berring Straits we know little about that time. However, records of ancient Egypt suggest a very advanced civilization in some places on our planet. This is Penny speaking in her Hygeian persona in that life speaking.

“There are sixty-three men and only sixteen women, but we are all warriors. It is very hot where we are now, but we are training for war and this endurance training is part of our need for resilience. My parents agreed that I would join the army when I was very young; maybe five. I have not seen them since. My brother came with me. The earth was very different then. It was very cold mostly. I know because we have marched for thousands of miles. We are far more civilized than many people on earth, more cohesive and fit and healthy. My time in the army has made me fit and lean; fit mentally and fit physically. Sound health is a law, a decree that comes from the gods. Only the barbarians are unfit and short lived. We undergo long marches through the mountains. I love them. I am enormously fit. I am now in command and I will be chosen to be the queen because I am so very fit. ”

I have looked at geographically relocating Penny to live in Lisbon, Portugal and this is her report if she went to live there.

PENNY’S RELOCATED SUN LINE IN LISBON, PORTUGAL

This is an ideal place for advancement in your professional goals. If you want to take the focus away from your private life and place it on achieving your career ambitions then this location is beneficial. Here you are able to make the right connections to move forward in your chosen profession or to achieve a lifetime ambition. Job applications and promotions, marketing efforts, business associates, and business meetings should all prove successful under the influence of the Sun on this line. You have the ability to really shine in the world. You can experience some drawbacks when moving along this line. For instance, this location is not ideal if you want to settle down and start a family or if you want to spend more time with home and family unless this happens to be your major life ambition. You need to ensure that you keep your ambitions in check. You could be in for some disappointments if you are pursuing your ambitions to the exclusion of all else, or socialising only for the sake of self- advancement. However, if you maintain an appropriate balance in your life, you should be able focus on your goals and perhaps even achieve your life’s purpose.

Penny lived her Solar persona past life in Spain. This is the past life I saw in 1406 AD nearly a century before Christophero Columbo left Spain for America. When you read both the past life of Penny’s Sun persona life as the Spanish “habida” and the fit soldier in far off ancient times as the Hygeia persona. Both are women, but they would have no time for one another. That is the “quincunx between Scorpio Sun and Hygeia in Aries in the 5th house speaking.

“I am in Spain my beloved country, the country of my forebears. I am the dancer, fierce, passionate, and sexual. I dive and writhe my sinuous lithe body around men, empowering them to be splendid, vital and enormously clever. I am “habida”, a woman to have, a woman of lust. I am looked up to by other women, yet I must watch my back, for I am in constant danger because of the jealousy,  and revenge which follow me. I am constantly wary of the sharp hunting knife.”

I did not feel she would live long.

Can you see how Penny would try to compartmentalise the Aries Hygeia woman and the Sun Scorpio woman? Do you remember how when Penny  talked to me about her organic soap making career she told me it was a masculine career. That was clearly her Scorpio Sun persona talking. So let’s listen to her Venus in Scorpio tomorrow. But if Penny began to adjust spiritually, emotionally, physically and psychologically over time, with meditation and  yoga and maybe belonging to an art group and seeing a psychotherapist or psychological astrologer or shamanic astrologer  she could help her Hygeia persona and her Sun persona become friends.

CONCLUSION.

Today I just couldn’t get my act together and as a result when my energy finally gravitated to my computer I rushed through this blog. This really is a blog, not a really great article, but why I wanted to finish this is because there is a quincunx between Hygeia and the Sun and not just a natal quincunx, but first a geographical relocated chart and then two past lives showing why it really is so hard to blend the quincunx personas when you have a yod or just a quincunx. Tomorrow I’ll finish this blog off and turn it into an article. I want to analyse Hygeia trine Trans Pluto in Leo and Hygeia trine Vesta and Hygeia quincunx Ascendant.

Good night and I hope you enjoy what I have written,
Hilary
